The colours black and white in the Spanish and Slovak economic context. The topic of this article is lexical units (expressions, fixed constructions, collocations) with the component of black and white colours used in the Spanish and Slovak economic context. The colours black and white occupy a special position among the colours as they are present in all languages, are achromatic and are in opposition to each other. Their most common connotations are related to the human understanding of the world in terms of day/night, good/bad, clean/dirty. The aim of this research is to find out whether the semantics of the colours black and white in the Spanish and Slovak economic language coincides with the traditional symbolism of these colours in both cultures. First of all, we create a corpus of all lexical units with black and white as chromatic components related to the field of economy, finance and the world of work based on popular economic texts (newspapers, specialised magazines) accessible in the electronic corpus Araneum (Araneum Hispanicum and Araneum Slovacum). After that, the semantic analysis of the chromatic lexical units is carried out, which is followed by a contrastive-comparative analysis of the lexical units in Spanish and Slovak. These units are compared and contrasted in order to check whether the symbolism of the colours black and white is also reflected in the economic language and to examine the connotations (positive, negative or neutral) of the colours black and white in the economic language.en
